Tony Lama 100th Anniversary Boots

To celebrate the 100th anniversary of cowboy boot maker Tony Lama, El Paso, Texas based jewelry designer Susan Eisen was tapped to adorn a pair of fourth-edition El Rey boots with 14k gold commemorative buckles and 100 diamonds set in yellow gold.

The stones are bezel-set in star and circle motifs; it took Eisen three months, from start to finish, to make the buckles. "We had to create a special way to attach them to the leather and we did it with gold and silver,” Eisen explained to Jeweler's Circular Keystone Magazine. The boots themselves are made of fine-grade leather and feature gold leather accents and soles. "There is only one pair made every 25 years,” she says. "This is Tony Lama’s 100th anniversary and we were honored to be chosen to adorn the boots. Leather and diamonds are the perfect combination for a blingy cowgirl!”

The first step was a meeting with Justin Boot executives and Susan Eisen to work out the details and design. From there Ms. Eisen worked with Justin Boots head designer to create the design for the gold and diamonds.

After the design was created Ms. Eisen and her team set the diamonds in the mountings fastening them to the boot.  Her goldsmithing expertise came in handy as she adorned the buckles to fit on the boot so they would lay just right.  It took many hours to get the pieces attached perfectly to the boots.

Susan Eisen proudly display the Tony Lama El Rey boots in her store as one of the stops on the national tour.

The boots were on tour nationwide, and Eisen had the opportunity to display them in her own store, Susan Eisen Fine Jewelry and Watches at 5857 North Mesa, from Sept. 8 to 15, 2011. Also on view and for sale was art and jewelry from the estate of Louis Lama. "We are coupling the boots with an exhibit of jewelry and art from the estate of Louis Lama, which we were asked to liquidate for the estate.”

Valued at $50,000.00 and are not for sale, as they will be part of Justin Boots permanent collection.
